Alternative Modeling Agency- The Core

It was so sad finding out the only alternative modeling agency I'd ever heard of,Ugly NY, was closing. But today I came across an agency that's doing it bigger, better, and even with a high fashion flare! It's called The Core. They are painfully cutting edge :) Not only do they represent models, they also have photographers, stylists and performers! On their website, it says they

"Personally hand pick all of our models in order to maintain the vision of providing our clients with the top alternative talent in the industry.
"

Their current headquarters is in Sweden, but I'm hopping they are expanding to the states! Watch out world, this is the next big th
ing in modeling, and I can only hope to be a part of it! ;)
p.s. they have a great blog too! Check it out here: www.blogthecore.blogspot.com

I Got Picked To Be An April SNAPMUP Feature Model!

Over 600 people showed up for last month's SNAPMUP meet and greet in NJ. There are only 15 feature models each month and I was chosen for April! :) Yup that's me 3rd in from the right on the top row (photo taken by SiRs Photography). It's going to be a great night of mingling, live DJ's, tons of differnt sets to shoot at, a runway show and the east coast's biggest meet and greet of photographers, make up artists, and designers! As a feature model you get a table to book future gigs, and set your portfolio up at. You also get to shoot with the feature photographers, and book for time slots that night! I'm excited and looking forward to the great oppurtunity... and a road trip... ;)

(You can click on the flyer to see it bigger. I also put the flyer up on the blog to the right ----> :)

PHOTO SHOOT RECAP: Kendal Carr

Best photo shoot I've ever done in a cardboard box....

Bet you don't hear that every day. But that is just the tip of the creativity iceberg also known as Kendal Carr (amazing world wide uber published photographer). I was fortunate enough to get to shoot with him prior to this shoot on a baby doll look. It was actually cast by make up artist Michael Reyes, but Kendal and I clicked, and have been meaning to shoot ever since. Yesterday we made it happen.

This photo shoot was a poster child for group effort. Adding their creative input was my darling make up artist Chontae, and Kendal's very talented friend and photographer, Charles. Lucky for me, I was surrounded by people who are great at what they do, and have a great eye, it shouldn't be a surprise at how unique this shoot was. The first look was in a hand made dress I made, outside in front of a truck full of garbage... Classy, just like me. Kendal was kind enough to haul his huge lights and laptop out behind the studio so we could shoot on location (Note: Kendal is the only photographer I have worked with who shoots a couple shots, then has his camera synched to his laptop so he can see how the shots look. Is it the secret to his success...?) Meanwhile it was freezing in my strapless knee length dress, nothing new there though but this time I was contorted into in a cardboard box half my size, lips all bejeweled, dripping down my neck, while holding an umbrella and wearing a lamp shade. Yes, this is the shit I live for.

The second look was black and white. Kendal's black and white's are so rich and filled with amazing mood, I had to have him shoot me in B & W. I brought a shirt I had made with KATELIN across the front :) and paired it with some ripped up jeans. Chontae gave me a dark eye and I messed up my hair. Once the look was set, Kendal chose to shoot it in the make up room. The make up Chontae had been working with was organically spread across the table, and those amazing vanity lights were the background. That mixed with Kendal's own top secret lighting techniques...... wow. These are going to be just as ridiculously fresh as the first look!

side note:My goal is to give photographers the widest variety of poses, and expressions I can. Leaving them to decide the look they want to portray. My theory is I'm just going to keep moving suddenly until the photographer sees a pose they are really inspired by, then I will hold it, and they can get the angle, setting, etc. how really want. I am there to be the physical manifestation of their creative concept.

Though the day was wearing, we squeezed one last look in with a zebra print dress I made. This was a really fun shoot, not only because I got to shoot with Kendal, but I made the clothes for every look! :) For the final look I crawled up into a cut out in the wall. I didn't see these ones, but there's no doubt they will be hot, plus, it will be a surprise for all of us! :) Stay posted, you know you want to see them!

Um, yes.

I think I need it...

Saw this super cute bag on fellow blogger The Glamazon Diaries' site. For $46, it's worth repeating!! :)

Cherry Blossom Festival Shoot With Bo & Joy

Bo's Photographs:

My Favorite of Joy's Shots:

English import photographer extraordinaire Bo, and his uber cute Philippine photographer friend Joy picked me up Monday afternoon for a great Cherry Blossom Festivle shoot. They agreed on an ideal pink dress that complimented the blossoming flowers perfectly. They set up by the Tidal Basin in a flash. With a flash actualy, in an oxtobox. All I had to do was just show up and throw up. But dammit, one of these days it's not going to be so damn freezing when we shoot... I had this skimpy dress on, but thankfully I was doing the model quarter mile. I was totaly airating the ground with my 4 inch heels running back and forth to capture the movement just right. I kinda felt like a football player in cleats. ... ooooo the shots turned out hot though!!! This shoot was initally set up to build on Bo's earlier movement shots we did at the DC Photo Co-Op open house last week. But I think they are about movement, but more. Each shot has a completely different feel and mood. I really like them, and I hope you do too! ")

Last week I had lunch at Walter Reed, were all of the vets come after Iraq. It was so sad seeing soldiers younger than myself, freshly wounded. Immediately after lunch I went straight to the Red Cross to see if I could volunteer, anything to show those soldiers people care. I care.

Jesse Justice Photo's From The Booshie Ball Event

(yup. that's me in the wig)
my new boyfriend.

Just got these great pictures back from Jesse Justice, from the Booshie Ball Fashion event I was part of last month (see blog post recapping it here). Perfect timing, because Booshie Designs just won runner up (!!!) for best local designer on DC's 'Best Of List', from City Link Paper. Congratulations Ginger!! I love these pictures and think they show how much fun the event really was! All clothing I'm wearing in the above shots is Booshie, so keep an eye on Booshie Designs because Ginger's 100% original, vintage inspired threads are going to be in Barney's across the country soon! Kendal Carr / Miachael Reyes Photos

Just got these pictures back from the photo shoot I did with the photographer Kendal Carr and make up artist Michael Reyes. Kendal has been really busy, shooting in Miami, and doing magazine covers in Cabo San Lucas but somehow has squeezed me in and we are shooting again next Wednesday :) So stay posted for a recap of that shot, it's going to be a good one!

Where to Go In Miami If You Are Visiting

So many people were coming into work to get ready for Miami this week for the Winter Music Conference which started Wednesday and goes through the weekend. If you don't know what it is, you should. Google it. All the pokies know what it is though...damnit wish I was there...instead I'm going to the Cherry Blossom Festival. Great. Anyways, I've been dishing out Miami advice like it was bailout money, and I thought, well shit I should put this in the blog. So here is, the inside info I would give to anyone visiting mi amor- MIAMI:

Hotel to stay at: The Delano in South Beach, or The Four Seasons in Brickell.

Eat at The Forge (my favorite restaurant) or Prime 112 for steak. On weekends The Forge also has a great club to dance at (not too crowded, upscale older crowd)

Go to Niki Beach! It's great to go in the afternoon (week day or night) get drinks, lay out it's gorgeous. It's also turns into a club on the weekends. Do it.

Best Clubs: Mansion-to see celebrities, The Fifth-to dance, Lemoch plays there! And Space to get your techno on until 8am

Go to Wet Willies on Ocean Dr, get a frozen daiquiri sit out on their deck. It's the best place to people watch

Go to South Beach to see fake boobs, and hotties playing volleyball, but rent a cabana on Ft Lauderdale Beach and lay out. I like it better than South Beach, it's cleaner.

A fun field trip is to head over to 8th st/ Calle Ocho in Miami. See the old guys playing domino's, get some really great Cuban food (my recommendation: a Cuban sandwich and a cafe con leche) It's cool and it's not a huge tourist attraction.

So there you have it, you can't go wrong if you follow that advice!

"I'm In Miami, Bitch"

I made this playlist to celebrate the music conference. The second song is a mix by my favorite techno DJ in Miami, DJ Lemoch. The rest are the hottest songs out right now, so let it playyyyy...... :)

PHOTO SHOOT RECAP: SiRs

On Monday I had the opportunity to shoot with the first photographer I ever shot with, and oh what a beautiful day it was for a shoot! Stephanie (SiRs photography) who swooped me up and got my portfolio rolling with my first photo shoot And hooked me up with the Betsey Johnson runway show I did! I really admire her attention to detail. From picking a location, to her style of shooting. Example- she'd catch me mid pose, then take it to the next level- tweak hair, straighten outfit (mind you, I'm still mid-pose) tuck shirt, lift head slightly, then snap it. As you will see, that trait shines through her work, and really makes her work something special. I am so thankful to get the opportunity to work with such talented people that are going to do big things. It's a real honor. That being said, she came in to DC and we did a real hot set of city shots around DC. I tell photographers all the time they should come to my house and pick out outfits, and she is the first to take me up on it. I think she was pleasantly surprised.... or horrified. " )
She picked all kinds of outfits! It's fun when someone else looks through your wardrobe, because they see outfits (that totally work) that you would have never thought of! A few things she pulled were: A dress I hand made, a dress my mom made for herself when she was my age, a MODA sweater I just got up in NY last week, hell, we even cut up a shirt for the shoot! ") Great outfits, great locations, you might even see a monument shot... just maybe ") Stay posted it's going to be a fun, diverse shoot!
