My New Hair Color!! (Pics by Bo Zhang)

So as you may know, if you follow me on Twitter, that I dyed my hair!! I went to PR @ Partners Metro Center and asked Jackie, that I worked with on the Betsey Johnson runway show to dye my hair any color she wanted. Above is the vibrant color she chose. Last minute I wanted some pics before I left to Oregon and begged Bo Himself (plus I wanted to hang out one more time :) he kindly obliged and the outcome are the AWESOME pics above. It was really last minute, and just a quick shoot, so I did the hair and make up. Brought along my heels I got in New York, and cute little H & M dress I got up there. The white background is perfect for making my new hair color pop, and that bottom shot... sexy. Xoxox Bo thank you so much for pulling through so last minute!!

When one of your BF's a photographer...

Mr. Bo Zhang himself e-mailed me these little gems the other day! They were all taken at my house party a couple months ago. The top two were snapped at the metro while we were waiting to pick someone up. The bottom two he totally snuck on me, but they are so real and sincere, I love them all! The top one is one of my favorite pics of myself of all time, no make up but mascara, in a shirt I made, and me just being me...I am so thankful for my friends!

PHOTO SHOOT RECAP: Bo Zhang and The Crew @ My House

Already a pic!!

Maddy doing the damn thing in her first outfit
My first outfit, with lightning bolt Warren in the background
The polaroid from my house party that inspired it all. (Just wait until you see the pics we did like this!)
Start to finish, Warren makes a piece of art out of anyone! (Me wearing a custom made Booshie tee)
Artist at work
Artist at work.
xoxox Warren
Ms. Booshie herself, Ginger and I
Warren the McGiver's secrets reveled, A TEA BOX!
The culprit. Who knew a tea box could be so fierce?!

They say when you love what you do, you'll never work a day, and last night's photo shoot exemplified that. Great people and a great time!
Where to begin... the whole 'family' was there, Bo Himself, his assistant Joey( he also helped Bo in the jungle shoot), Ginger (Booshie Design), the artist formally known at WarrenBe, and newbies but goodies: stylist and new found neighbor, Natasha and model/new friend, Maddy. What a great, and talented group of people to work with- A true honor!
Warren (who's b-day is tomorrow!!) did both Maddy and I's hair, and make up, so he was busy making us into pieces of art, while Ginger and Natasha were a great team coordinating complete and cohesive looks in my guest bedroom. This shoot elucidates how attention to detail takes good to great. Each person, a master in their craft, put the time and thought into this shoot, and I really think it will show in the pics! Well, the first set we did was a two girl shoot with Maddy and I and the above chair from the polaroid in my backyard. We covered everyone with bug spray, played some fat beats on the ipod player and went to work. It was a fun experience because neither Maddy, Bo or myself have ever done a two girl shoot together. But Maddy's really cool, and Bo was great with direction, so it was a fun, and different experience. Then Bo did individuals with each of us, and on to the next outfit. The second looks were individual shots (the above is an example) with more emphasis on motion, and Ginger's dresses worked immaculately!! After seven hours, we finally wrapped about midnight. I found myself in sweats, sprawled out on the couch with a Natural Light beer in my hand and a tea box in my hair. A success :) Stay posted for Bo's pics!

Bo Zhang- Jungle Pics

Real models make funny faces. Especially when they're trying to emulate the crazy stick their holding.
LOVE this one!
Creepn'
I promise, my golf swing is way better than this.
ItalicThis is my, 'yeah, I made this dress' pose
As promised, my favorite set from the shoot I did with Bo last week. To be honest, I never thought Bo would pick this dress to shoot, but it is lightweight and easy to pack, to I brought it. Working with Bo, you have to trust him. ie- he picked the camo dress I had made, handed me a crazy stick with a face on it, put me in front of a bush and said Go. The man's got a vision. I had no idea how it was going to turn out, but when working with Bo Himself, you can bank on the shots being money :) And, as always, I absolutely adore these! If you check out his blog, he said the nicest thing:

"It’s always great working with Katelin…so much versatility and so quick to get through the poses and all the different looks. If you are a photographer and ever find yourself in the area…definitely plan a shoot with Katelin." :)

Looking forward to our next shoot on Monday!!

PHOTO SHOOT RECAP: Bo Zhang @ His New Studio

One day after the shoot, and he already sent me a pic! You can click on it to see it bigger :)

Behind the scenes of the commercial look we did
Yvette (the make up artists) and I on set!

Where to begin with a photo shoot with Bo Himself... Bo is the photographer I've worked with the most, and known the longest. But this was the first time, I really felt like I got to know him. If you are lucky enough to know Bo, you would most likely know the business side of him. He is very polite, organized, and driven. But yesterday I got to see the charming, personable Bo that is candid and laughs out loud, I always thought was there, but just am beginning to see.

When we shoot, it's like a dance, so much fun! He bosses me, I tell him I'm going to punch him in the face, and we're laughing the whole time. The make up artist Yvette and Bo's assistant probably thought we were lunatics! "Move you're head slightly to the left, chin up." "Tell me that one more time and I'm going to punch you in the face." :) And it's great working with someone more than once because it really challenges you. What can I bring differently, etc. And Bo gave me such a wonderful complement, and said he thinks I am growing as a model :) What a lovely thing to hear! Though I was telling him, I don't think of myself as a model. To me, I got to go hang out with my friend, have a great time, and watch him make art.

About the shoot: We did essentially three looks. The first looks were actually some of the most challenging I've ever done. 'Commercial' ie casual, t-shirt/jeans/oversized men's shirt, smiling kind of thing. It was hard to do without looking totally fake, and cheesy, and trying to keep subtle but diverse poses. But both Bo and I need more of that genre for our portfolios, and knowing Bo, there going to turn out bossy!

After we banged some of that out, we got into the good stuff: wet hair, head shots (above, I love it!!) and then we went outside in his backyard and did a few quick out doors shots (before Bo got completely eaten alive by mosquitoes!) I know you're going to love those shoots: wet hair, camo dress I made, crazy African stick, SO much fun!

After the shoot, Bo let me exploit his Costco card and we went and printed some of my portfolio pics ( $3.99 for 11x14's!!!) Then he took me to get a bigger portfolio @ The Container Store ($15 for an 11 x 14 one!!!) Because all the cool kids are printing their portfolios at this size :) It was such a productive day!

After all that, Bo showed me some of the raw shots he'd taken from the day. It changed my life. Seriously, seeing your face that big and close up without photo shop. Horrifying. I still want to vomit a little bit thinking about it. Have you ever seen a picture so up close you see your pores? Ever little wrinkle and hair.... jesus. I mean, as a photo major in college, I spent my fair share of time staring at people's faces, dodging, burning and color correcting, but NEVER at 400%, fixing ever little wrinkle, fold and fat ass. I don't know, it's an experience everyone should see. Our perception of beauty and fashion is so skewed, and manipulated.... But on the other hand, we (or at least I) completely underestimated the amount of time, thought and effort great photographers put into their work to make it look so wonderful and professional.

So Sesame Street's lesson of the day: Printing your portfolio 11x 14 looks sooo much better, a TON of work goes into processing one picture, and when you love what you do, it's never work :) Stay posted for more pics to come!

RECAP: Artomatic's 'Art In Fashion' Runway Show

Viceral Photography's Pic of Chris BORED ahahah (don't worry that's not me on the runway :)
Crazy picture of me in Emore' J Coture

It's events like this that make me realize how fortunate I am. Fortunate to be asked to be involved in events like this, and fortunate not only to get to work with some of the most talented people in the industry, but to get to call some of them my friends :)

That being said, I had a fucking blast last night! The day started early at Ginger's (Booshie Design) helping get things together for the show. Once at Artomatic, if you haven't been to there, it's awesome, nine floors of diverse art, all free to the community! Make up artist extraordinaire, Warren was sweet enough to agree to do come and do my makeup, and hair but ended up a.) getting mobbed, and b.) putting on a clinic for everyone. He is so flipping talented, we worked together in my 2nd photo shoot ever (blog post here) and I've been dying to work with him again. For some fluke he agreed to come, but he was such a big hit, and after models saw my make up, they started to crowd him, and stand around watching. He's a master. Not only does he do make up, he's a hair artist, and was so sweet to check in with me after each pass and touch up my hair! Can't wait to work with him again, before he gets swooped up by someone like Beyonce :)

The show's designers kinda felt like a Washington White Party reunion, all my favorite's were there: Heydari, Emore' J Couture, and Mr. William's collection, Corjor. I was privileged enough to be asked to be in all of their passes again and Booshie Design!!(you can see me walk in Emore's collection from the white party here) Danny, who has seen me walk in every runway show I've done, said it was my best runway show yet! Not to mention I received 5 snaps from people after the show (ex "you were fiieerrrce girl" snap* snap*) There was a great turnout, Viceral Photography taking pics, a beautiful runway, and Bo, Chris and Ali were all there to watch :)
Stay posted for Danny's pics!

Triple M Event Recap

Me @ the event! (photo by David)
I'm blue (abaa de aba da) Photo by Bo Himself, dress made by me!
You know I hang out with the hot bitches (from right: Chris, Jon, Bo Himself, Mo)
The DJ who played 'I'm In Miami Trick' for me!! I heart Ultrabar!!
Me and one of the club's owner, Jon- guy you need to know!
Me and the other models

The Triple M Event last night was such a good time thanks to all my wonderful friends who showed up, and Ultrabar's hospitality! A special thank you to Salsabella for putting it together, Valeria for doing my makeup, Ali, Chris and Bo for coming out and supporting, Ultrabar's DJ for taking requests, and definitely a thank you to one of the owner's Jon (see above pic) for being such a phenomenal host, it was a great night! The fashion show (see top picture) was a fundraiser for The Special Olympics. That first shot was taken by photographer, David Randall (aka Photo Dr). Bo Himself (first pic of him ever above!) didn't bring his camera :( But took the above sweet blue shot of me with my camera, can you imagine the damage he could have done with his own camera!! We had free range of the beautiful club, which use to be a bank and has about 1,000 floors, definitely my new favorite club in DC! Perfect club for a photo shoot too! But all and all, the night was a great time, and we raised some money for a wonderful cause!

Bo & Danny's Polaroid Pics

Danny's:

Bo's:

At my house party on Saturday, I bought some Polaroids and was hoping amazing photographers, Danny and Bo would want to take a few snaps... My senior year in college I chose my final project to be with Polaroids (since they have ended production of them), and ever since I've had a love affair with their rawness, nostalgic quality and the fact they are one of a kind! Since I got into modeling, I've always thought it would be fun to do a Polaroid photo shoot. No one has taken me up on the offer so I thought I would pop it to my two favs @ my house party. Thankfully they humored me, and the outcome was these amazing shots! Read Bo's reaction to shooting Polaroids, very insightful! Hopefuly they will want to do some more sometime! :)
