I met Ginger, phenomenal east coast designer of Booshie Design, at the tanning salon I use to work at in DC. We've been BFF's since day one and I have been fortunate enough to be involved in, and watch Booshie Designs grow exponentially over the past year shooting with amazing photographers like Tony Veloz, Bo Zhang and Visceral Photography. Above are some shots from the last shoot we did together in an amazing mansion in DC before I left. I added the fun little sayings. You know you love them. See some of the tons of other work we've done together here in these blog posts. Recently she was written up on the hot DC blog MurmurDC.com in this amazing article. Ginger is in Vegas this week and I am lucky enough to get to shoot with her out here in my new town, so stay posted for pics from our shoot this week!!

Best Events Going On In DC This Weekend!

THURSDAY

Come out tonight and get your cheerleader on! Celebrate with the launch of the 2009/2010 Redskins-cheerleader calendar at Public Bar. Cheerleaders will participate in a fashion show, and there’ll be drink specials. $10 gets you in, and another ten bucks will get you a calendar. Maybe they can sign it with their ass for you. Meh, worth an ask.



If cheerleaders aren't your thing, maybe zombies are. Go out and get your zombie on at Black Cat with AHHHHH, Zombies! in the Red Room. Enjoy zombie drink specials (human blood?) and free zombie movies, hopefully like the gem above, starting at 8 PM tonight.

FRIDAY

Looking for something free to do? The Freer Gallery will screen All About Women Friday at 7 and Sunday at 2. The movie, part of the gallery’s Made in Hong Kong Film Festival, chronicles three modern women chasing love. Free tickets, which are distributed two hours before the show or reserved in advance online (for a small fee), are required.

Enjoy a laid-back Friday evening in the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden with Dixie Power Trio, a Fredericksburg jazz group. The free concert starts at 5 PM.

SATURDAY

For you tennis junkies (is there such a thing?!) watch some high-quality tennis when the Legg Mason Tennis Classic kicks off Saturday. Ten bucks gets you into the first qualifying round.

Saturday night the Black Cat is holding a benefit concert with Run For Cover. Lucky for you, helping out is easy with a great lineup of local bands playing covers of some of their favorite artists. The show starts at 9 and costs $10.


Pick up some cool stuff at DC9’s Binge and Purge rummage sale Saturday starting at 2. Stay for one of Washington’s best dance nights, called Kids. Entry is free before 10, with free forties. Yeah, you read that correctly. They run this shit classy. Cover is $6 after 10.

For those of you a little more fashionable, check out Trios at the Community Life Center located at 825 Yale Avenue Baltimore, Maryland 21229. Doors open at 5:30pm/Show starts at 6:30pm. Tickets available online at www.teroncestyyles.com/events.

Christian Siriano Designs Heels For Payless

I've been waiting since last December when Project Runway 4 winner Christian Siriano first announced plans to debut an accessories line for Payless at Fashion Week. Well, the time is upon us, coming next month the designer will premier his line of Egyptian-inspired footwear (and some bags) that range from $24 to $45.

Siriano said:
“I’m so excited to design and create with such an amazing brand that is all about fashion and trend, but most importantly, is also about affordability. I can’t wait to see how Payless will take the high-end shoes and bags I’m designing for the runway and turn them into pieces that everyone can buy. I’m all about the runway and the sidewalks!”

Though I have to say, I am a little nervous about what he said when asked how the above runway version will be different from the shoes sold in stores. Payless better not old lady them up!! We all know how much I love my 7 inch heels...

"The Payless shoes are definitely modified to make them more wearable, but they are very similar. I designed the runway shoes with Payless, so don’t think that the retail shoes will be inferior in any way. The Payless customer wants an everyday shoe, not something they can wear just once. You can see that the retail shoes are dramatic enough with the color and the details. They don’t need to be 7 inches high for drama. They have enough drama on their own."

None the less, I can't wait! :)

Come See Me This Friday In Artomatic's 'Art In Fashion' Runway Show!!!

Runner up best local designer, Ginger, with Booshie Design got asked to be in Art In Fashion this Friday (you can click on the above flier to see details). It's the big bang ending for Artomatic (DC's biggest art show) which has been open since the end of May, and closes on July 5th. Ginger was kind enough to ask me to walk in her pass, and I am honored to do so! Today we had a fitting (see above pic), and wait until you see the blue ball gown she has made for the final pass- epic!! She has put a lot of work into this show, and the event sounds like it's going to be a good time. A little exerp from the site about the fashion show:

"Art in Fashion is a non-mainstream, carnival-like event that combines the creative efforts of artists and fashion designers in a unique show, envisioned not as a typical fashion show in the commercial sense, but as an artistic extravaganza, featuring multiple forms of art including costume and fashion design, drag, choreography/dance, performance art, mime, hair design, body paint, tattoo art, and other disciplines. The runway is four feet wide by 40 feet long and the event is expected to attract 1000-1500 visitors between the start and the end."

Sounds like a party to me! The event starts at 6pm, the runway show will be at 8pm, and the all important after party is from 11pm- 2am, the event is free so no excuse not to come! :)

Washington White Party Recap

It was hot! No, literally though....

The model call was at 2pm. We had 4 hours of hair and makeup with the 'glam squad.' They hooked us models up with amazing ratted hair do's and white eyeshadow, I absolutely loved the look! These models that were cast for the show were/are legit!! 5'8 and up, beaauuutiful girls. It was such an honor to be involved with such talented people!

The super sweet and talented Ginger with Booshie Designs was kind enough to custom design me a dress for the opening pass. All the models were suppose to supply their own outfit for this opening, and I thought it would be a great opportunity to showcase Booshie Designs. And since the event was ran by the director of DC Fashion Week, Ean Williams, I thought it would be a good opportunity to for her to meet Mr. Williams and hopefuly get into September's DC Fashion Week. Well that being said she made this wonderful flowing dream of a dress, that all the models (including myself) loved!

After that opening number, I wasn't in another pass until after the intermission. Which was cool because I got to watch the first half backstage on a tv they had setup streaming the show. One model stood out, and it was the super fierce, Model Tee. This girl! I would be watching the show backstage, and every time I time she came out I was like "who in the hell is that, she has the most fierce walk!" and I would turn around and it was her cute little self coming off the runway. Every time! This girl's walk is so fierce, Tyra watch out!

The next pass I was in was with my other favorite local designer, Emore' J Coutour. (Note to photographers: work with this designer ASAP, because this kid is going to blow up!) I just looovee his designs and I want to wear them everywhere. I should be wearing one right now. And as soon as I find out where to buy his stuff, I will be blogging in his couture pieces. Cause I can. And will :) Well, the next pass was the contrasting ready to wear Heydari line by the cutest 5'1 women, perhaps on earth. The store is filled with comfortable, light weight pieces, but so many! This show was proof of Ms. Heydari's artistic eye, it was so well curated (I'm not sure the fashion speak for that), but the pieces she selected were so perfect for the runway, and to showcase the diversity of her line. Just try her line on, and you'll fall in love with how comfortable it is. Then I was fortunate enough to sneak into the man himself's (Mr. Williams) pass. Sometimes it's about being in the right place. He was rushing around before the show and I could tell he was looking for models, and I said "Do you need another model?" He said, sorry hun you're too short :) (side note: this isn't my first runway show, so I've learned tricks around this minor detail. Designers make their clothes for 5'8-'6'0 girls. But if it's a long dress, you can wear hhiiighh heels be 5'9 and no one will know i.e. stripper heels) Well I quickly quiped back to Mr Williams before he could dismiss me, "I have 6 inch heels, I can be tall!" He stopped, gave me the once over, then said "lemme see them" I ran slapped them on then showed him my runway walk in them. I think he was surprised in the ease I could walk in them, but told his assistant-fit her :) Score. I got this elegant piece of art to wear with a 4 ft train and feather face mask! Ridiculously glamorous. But I'm not going to lie, I was nervous on this on. It was the last pass, the director of DC Fashion Week's line, and I'm wearing a face mask I can barely see out of, 6 inch heels and a train. Could have been bad, but thankfully went seamlessly! We all slapped our white outfits on, flooded, and that was a wrap on the Washington White Party! Fabulous.

But I had tickets to Atmosphere, I had them way before I knew about the runway show. But since the runway show started at 7pm, I thought it would be done just in time for the headliners to come on. But the event was a true production and didn't end until 10pm. So right after the flood, I slapped some street clothes on and took off to the metro. Which was sad because my BF and photographer Danny was there, and I really wanted to hang out and chat with him, but I had to see them play!! Thankfully, I just made it there in time to see them play their last 4 songs. Not much, but better than nothing! :) I even got a t-shirt! (you too can buy Atmosphere swag here).

I'm Going To Be In The Official Washington White Party Fashion Show!!

I submitted my portfolio last week to audition for The Washington White Party Fashion Show. Thankfully, I was asked to come in to Heydari on Friday for an invite only audition! There I had the pleasure of meeting Ean Williams, the director of DC Fashion Week (just one of his many accomplishments). I walked for him, then he had his photographers, from FooCheug.com, snap a few pictures (the above). But the great news, is they just e-mailed me and I got asked to be in the show!! :) The annual event will highlight innovative fashion designers and model talent. It will be on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at the beautiful Crystal City Doubletree Hotel, in Arlington, VA. You better believe I will be at the model after-party in the above Sky Dome! But don't worry, you can come too! : ) Tickets go on sale soon.

"This first class event's list of invitees includes magazines, agency representatives, fashion photographers and talent management companies. They know we secure some of the best model talent the east coast has to offer."

That was the conclusion to their e-mail. It's going to be a great event, and I'm so excited to be involved in it! The designer fittings will be soon, so stay posted! :)

My New Purse!!

When I came home last night Chris told me there was something for me on the couch... When I went in there, there was a Coach box. Inside was the above GORGEOUS, 'Coach Signature Madison Op Art Sateen Large Sabrina Satchel'. Quite a name for such a cute little purse! But what a wonderful and unexpected gift!!! This purse is brand new this year, and I had never seen it before, but with a classic Coach purse, you can't go wrong! I found all the above pictures online. I couldn't find one of it's super fun hot pink inside, but I did find a picture of the best part, the removable strap that, when not in use, tucks neatly under the bag...oh I love it!!

And not to name drop or anything... but that is Hayden Panettiere, and Isla Fisher carrying my purse :)

Jesse Justice Photo's From The Booshie Ball Event

Just got these great pictures back from Jesse Justice, from the Booshie Ball Fashion event I was part of last month (see blog post recapping it here). Perfect timing, because Booshie Designs just won runner up (!!!) for best local designer on DC's 'Best Of List', from City Link Paper. Congratulations Ginger!! I love these pictures and think they show how much fun the event really was! All clothing I'm wearing in the above shots is Booshie, so keep an eye on Booshie Designs because Ginger's 100% original, vintage inspired threads are going to be in Barney's across the country soon! ")

RECAP: Booshie Ball, Saturday March 7th

In my earlier post, I previewed Booshie Design's, Booshie Ball. It turned out to be a fantastic night! I was fortunate enough to be personally asked by the designer to model for the event Saturday night. I adore her clothes, so of course I said yes! So Saturday, right after the Top Model audition I went home, threw on some jeans, and a hat and headed off to Jimmy Valentine's for the event. (There is no website, but you can check out this awesome review by The Washington Post). Let me tell you this place is the real deal. It has all of the qualifications to be my kind of dive bar: No sign out front, large dog-present INTHE BAR the entire evening, a midget, tall boy PBR's, and a cash only bar. I knew I loved it the minute I walked in. When I got there the fabulous, and darling Kat was all ready to do my makeup, which turned out absolutely beautiful! This woman is soo talented, I really hope we get to work together again! Then the evening began....There was free champagne, and people walking around passing out decedent truffles all night, it was great! Not to mention the gift bags everyone got!! Which were filled with Booshie t-shirts, scarfs, stickers, bracelets etc. To top it off, all the DJ's that were brought it were AWESOME, kicking techno and house beats all night, it was a great event!

There wasn't really enough room for a runway show though, so they had set up a changing room at the front corner of the place with a red curtain. They put studio lights and a little platform in front of the curtain so it turned out to be more of a live photo shoot. The designer, Ginger, is so sweet, all she asked of us, was that we are always wearing something from the collection, and to keep a glass of champagne in our hand the whole night. ") That's a request I can do with a smile. So throughout the night we would go behind the curtain and, literally, play dress up. Ginger brought tons of accessories and wigs, and had a rack of her designs in the changing room. She said wear whatever you want, change as much as you like. ") I did. I changed probably 4 or 5 times putting all kinds of combonations together, wait until you see some of the fun outfits I made! Well, once one of us models had an outfit on, we would come out and stand on the platform, doing some poses while fat beats pounded in the background and the photographer Jesse snapped away. The crowd loved it, and it was so fun, and different! I'm sure he got some great pictures, so stay posted to see them!
