Come See Me This Friday In Artomatic's 'Art In Fashion' Runway Show!!!

Me wearing a sneak peak of what might be in the show, with the designer Ginger
Runner up best local designer, Ginger, with Booshie Design got asked to be in Art In Fashion this Friday (you can click on the above flier to see details). It's the big bang ending for Artomatic (DC's biggest art show) which has been open since the end of May, and closes on July 5th. Ginger was kind enough to ask me to walk in her pass, and I am honored to do so! Today we had a fitting (see above pic), and wait until you see the blue ball gown she has made for the final pass- epic!! She has put a lot of work into this show, and the event sounds like it's going to be a good time. A little exerp from the site about the fashion show:

"Art in Fashion is a non-mainstream, carnival-like event that combines the creative efforts of artists and fashion designers in a unique show, envisioned not as a typical fashion show in the commercial sense, but as an artistic extravaganza, featuring multiple forms of art including costume and fashion design, drag, choreography/dance, performance art, mime, hair design, body paint, tattoo art, and other disciplines. The runway is four feet wide by 40 feet long and the event is expected to attract 1000-1500 visitors between the start and the end."

Sounds like a party to me! The event starts at 6pm, the runway show will be at 8pm, and the all important after party is from 11pm- 2am, the event is free so no excuse not to come! :)

Wulf Treu

Polaroid taken by me of Wulf holding my favorite piece of his art, 'Art Pussy'

Wulf's art:
Mr. Wulf Treu! I met this genius when I was working at the best art gallery in Miami, Art Futures. He was showing his art there and I was lucky enough to make his acquaintance. He is by far my favorite contemporary artist showing these days, and I'm still saving my pennies for the above piece of art, Art Pussy. He is a multi faceted and excels in photography, mixed media, video art etc. He has shown in galleries around the world, and one piece of his art sells for more than I make in a year. You can check out some his video art on his YouTube site here. His work is witty, understated, provocative, and to me, obtains the most vital aspect of art, the ability to make you feel, to make you think. Locally, he has art at the Conner Gallery a piece of video art, ''YOU KNOW MY NAME'' a fashion video with his wonderful crossdresser assistant as the star. PLUS he makes ass kicking clothes with his studio's logo on it "Garage 69" (as you can see in the above shirt he's wearing!) Like I said, multi talented, amazing artist that you should definitely keep under your radar!

Picture is Worth A Thousand Words..

Finally have my computer back after a week with the computer guy.... I'm sure all three of you have noticed ") But enough about the details, let me catch up...
Above is the lasted pic by Danny from the Betsey Johnson runway show I did last week.Feel free to click on the picture to see it larger. Also, please disregard the intolerable face I'm making, and the open left hand (low five anyone?). In my opinion, the picture is about so much more than a girl in a pretty dress making a heinous face. Take a second, and absorb the women on the left's expression. And after you draw that in, contradict it with the man on the opposite side's expression. Wow. It reminds me of why I spend five years studying photography in college. What an exciting picture that talkes about so much. Can't wait to see what Danny catches next!

NY Photographer's Insightful Slideshow on Snow

Watch my favorite NY Times Photograher, Bill Cunningham's slideshow here. He's just so insightful and silly. He has fun with photography while talking about social context, our culture, how fashion, location and many other elements play into a great photograph that tells a story. One picture would not have worked as wonderfully as this set does. Seeing 10 or more you really start to think about something as simple as walking off the curb. And, in my opinion, great art takes something simple and talks about so much more. Makes you think... I could talk for ages about Bill's slide show...In essence though-the whole idea to me, has a direct reference to the above Cartier-Bresson image.
